Every powerful movement is born from a quiet, deeply personal moment. For the AFYA Sickle Cell Foundation, that spark is Anabel Esther.

Diagnosed with sickle cell disease at a young age, Anabel showed extraordinary strength through early hospital visits and painful crises. Today, as a joyful 7-year-old student, she represents the hope that inspired this foundation.

Anabel represents every child living with sickle cell in Uganda—showing that with early detection, continuous clinical monitoring, and overwhelming family support, a diagnosis is not a destiny.

"Anabel taught us that fighting sickle cell isn't just about managing pain—it's about protecting the childhood, dreams, and future of every warrior."
Nanyonjo Noeline

Nanyonjo Noeline

When founder Nanyonjo Noeline first received Anabel's diagnosis, she faced the fear, medical uncertainty, and social stigma that confronts countless families across Uganda.

Driven by unconditional love for her daughter, she chose to turn personal adversity into a life-saving mission. She founded the AFYA Sickle Cell Foundation with a singular vision: to ensure that no warrior walks this journey alone.

By establishing an official medical partnership with Afya Medicare Clinic, she built an ecosystem of routine doctor reviews, genotype screening drives, and peer support circles that now reaches over 1,000 warriors across Uganda.
